What is the blatchford score?
Stratifies risk of endoscopy in low risk upper GI bleed for patients who are candidates for outpatient endoscopy
When is it suitable to offer platelet transfusion in upper GI bleed?
When platelets are less than 50x109
When would FFP be given in someone with an acute upper GI bleed?
If PT/APTT/INR is greater than 1.5 times the normal.
What is the Rockall score?
A score done post endoscopy to calculate the re bleeding risk.
What should be given pre endoscopy in UGIB?
Abx such as ciprofloxacin
When should you give a PPI in UGIB?
In patients with suspected non-variceal upper GI bleeding.
Name 4 oesophageal causes of UGIB?
Varices, oesophagitis, cancer, Mallory weiss tear
Name 3 gastric causes of UGIB?
Gastric ulcer, gastric cancer, diffuse errosive gastritis.
Name 2 duodenal causes of UGIB?
Duodenal ulcer, aorto-enteric fistula
Who should have a fibro scan?
Hep C infection
Men who drink over 50 units per week
Women who drink over 35 units per week
What is a MELD score?
Monitored end stage liver disease score. which is used to assess the likelihood of complications.
What surveillance should patients with cirrhosis have?
USS and AFP every 6 months
What is used for primary prevention of decompensation of liver cirrhosis?
First line is carvedilol.
