What is triple therapy and quadruple therapy for H pylori?
Triple therapy = PPI/azithromycin/clarithromycin
Quadruple therapy = PPI/Bismuth/Tetracycline/Flagyl
How long are duodenal ulcers treated?
Treat duodenal ulcers for 4-6 weeks
How long are gastric ulcers treated?
6-8 weeks - remember gastric ulcers have a harder time to heal compared to duodenal ulcers because of their constant exposure to gastric acid.
Which type of GI ulcers require further monitoring? (duodenal vs gastric)
Gastric ulcers require further monitoring.
Repeat endoscopy with biopsies to rule out gastric cancer in 8 weeks
Differentiate symptoms of dyspepsia and PUD?
What are some causes of PUD? (4)
Dyspepsia presents as chronic or recurrent epigastric pain, early satiety, and post-prandial fullness.
PUD presents as epigastric abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
Dyspepsia has many different causes one of which is PUD.
PUD causes - H pylori, NSAIDs, Gastrinomas, Alcohol
What labs are indicate of alcoholic liver disease?
AST/ALT > 2
What LFTs are seen in acute viral, toxic, or ischemic hepatitis?
What about LFT levels in alcoholic hepatitis?
AST or ALT > 1000 indicates acute viral/toxic/ischemic hepatitis.
Alcoholic hepatitis is almost never > 400
Differentiate between cholestasis and hepatocellular liver injury?
In hepatocellular liver injury, LFTs > ALKP
In cholestasis, ALKP > LFTs
