What are the zones and toxicity in the liver?
Zone 1 - periportal, best blood supply. Affected by viral hepatitis
Zone 2 - intermediate zone
Yellow fever
Zone 3 - Pericentral vein
Ischaemia, metabolic insults, alcoholic hepatitis
What is the cause of ulcers?
NSAIDs - decreased PGe2
Burns (Curling ulcer), hypovolaemia
Brain injury (Cushing ulcer), vagal stimulation
Menetrier disease
Hyperplasia of the gastric mucosa due to increased mucous production
Weight loss, anoerxia, vomiting, pain and edema (protein loss)
What are the findings in celiac disease?
anti TTG, anti-endomysial, anti-deamidated, gliadin peptide antibodies, villous atrophy, crypt hyperplasia.
Liver changes with different conditions
AST > ALT - alcoholic liver disease
AST»_space; ALT - non alcoholic liver disease, drug induced liver disease, ischaemic, viral.
