How to differentiate small and large bowel obstruction?

A

Small - vomiting occurs earlier, and pain is higher in abdomen, and there is less distension
Large - pain is more constant, more distension

Small - adhesions

Give intramural, intraluminal and extraluminal causes of bowel obstruction

A

Intraluminal - faeces, bezoars (clump of hair), foreign bodies

Intramural - strictures, ischaemia, tumours, inflammation

Extraluminal - congenital bands, adhesions, hernia, endometriosis, abscesses, cancer
