Gastric Secretions and Enzymes Flashcards
What do parietal cells secrete?
Hydrochloric acid and intrinsic factor
What do chief or zymogen cells secrete?
An inactive proenzyme called pepsinogen
What are goblet cells used for?
Mucus production
What activates pepsinogen to pepsin?
HLC lowers the pH of the stomach.
Which enzyme is secreted by the stomach wall?
Renin/Chymosin
What is the function of renin?
Coagulates milk proteins
What does the enzyme ‘gastric lipase’ do in the stomach of unweaned animals?
Starts the digestion of the fats in the milk.
What do the pyloric glands do?
Produce mucus that covers the lining of the stomach.
What do G-cells secrete?
A hormone called gastrin
What does gastrin do?
Gastrin is carried in the circulatory system to the parietal and chief cells stimulating them to produce gastric juice and hydrochloric acid.
