Gas Supply & Distribution Flashcards
information from machine lecture on gas supply and distribution systems
What is PSIg pressure measured against?
atmospheric pressure
What is PSIa pressure measured agains?
pressure in a vacuum
True or False. When the PSIg of a tank reads 0, the tank is completely empty.
False
pressure in tank is same as pressure outside of tank, so no gas will flow
What is the tank pressure at absolute 0?
14.7 PSIa
Which organization enforces standards for purity of medical gas?
FDA
What is molecular weights for:
O2
N2 (nitrogen)
O2 = 32 N2 = 28
Cylinders are primary source for which gases?
- Helium
- Heliox
- CO2
what is the path of flow for gas from a cylinder?
yoke > inlet filter > pressure gauge > check valve > high pressure requlator
What is the purpose of the Pin Index Safety System (PISS)?
a safety feature to help ensure that cylinders are not installed on the wrong cylinder yoke. Each particular gas’s cylinder valve has an assigned hole configuration and the cylinder yoke has an assigned pin configuration
PISS is only used on what size cylinders?
A-E
On large cylinder connections what does the follow number example represent?
0.903-14-RH EXT
The first number is the diameter in inches of the cylinder outlet.
The next number gives the number of threads per inch.
The letters following this indicate whether the threads are right hand or left hand & external or internal.
What is the purpose of a cylinder (primary) regulator?
lower the high gas pressure as it exits a cylinder & enters the system. Often called Primary Regulators because they are the first regulator the gas encounters when flowing through the machine.
How many liters of 02 in an H cylinder? E cylinder?
H = 6900 L E = 660 L
How many liters of N2O in an H cylinder? E cylinder?
H= 15,800 L E= 1590 L
Which elements are in both a gas/liquid phase in the tank?
N2O
CO2
What are the US color codes for elements?
02 = green air = yellow N20 = blue He = brown Heliox = brown & green CO2 = gray N2 = black
What are the international color codes for elements?
same as US, EXCEPT :
O2 = White
air = white & black
heliox = brown & white
