Q

Liquefied compressed gas

A
Nitrous oxide (N2O)
Gas that becomes liquid in containers at ambient temperatures and a pressure from 25-1500 psig.

11
Q

Pressure relief valve

A

Reusable- when the tank gets to excessive temp. Or pressure the tank will allow some gas out and the pressure will drop.

15
Q

What is the position of the PISS for oxygen and nitrogen and what is its purpose?

A

2\5-oxygen
3\5-nitrogen
The PISS is for safety - so you know which gas is in the cylinder

16
Q

Most common cylinder size, the one we use most for transportation

A

Size E

17
Q

Pressure decline with a non liquified gas?

A

It is linear, as the amount of gas decreases so does the pressure in the tank

18
Q

Liquefied gas, how does the pressure in its tank drop?

A

The pressure gauge is not indicative of how much gas is in the cylinder. With N2O the gauge will continuously read 745psig until after no liquid is remaining in the tank. Once it drops below 745psig then there is no liquid in the tank, you need a new tank on stand by. The only way to know how much liquid is in the tank is to weigh it but that is not practical.

19
Q

When you open the cylinder slowly before attaching anything to blow off any debris, this is called

A

Cracking

20
Q

How many washers should you use at one time on a cylinder gas valve

A

Only one at a time

21
Q

The flow valve for that gas should be turned off before

A

The cylinder valve is opened

22
Q

Name for the gas system used in the hospital

A

Medical gas pipeline system

23
Q

What is the requirement in the hospital for supply source of gas?

A

At least an average day’s supply with a minimum of two cylinders

24
Q

Manifold

A

Multiple sources can be connected to that device

25
Q

You have a primary supply of gas and a secondary supply of gas, which one is running?

A

Primary supply is always running while the other bank is the back up

26
Q

Are the pressure reducing regulators upstream or downstream of the pressure relief valve?

A

Upstream

27
Q

Gas always flows?

A

From high pressure to low pressure

28
Q

Bank 1 Gas supply

Bank 2

A

Bank 1 is primary and bank 2 is secondary, if bank one goes below a certain pressure of is turned off for any reason then bank two starts running (back up).

29
Q

Purpose of a check valve

A

Keeps gas running in one direction, prevents back flow of gas, one way valve

30
Q

What is the most upstream think in the cylinder supply system or cryogenic oxygen supply tank

A

BANK 1

The cryogenic oxygen supply tank

31
Q

Shut off valves how do you turn em off

A

To shut off turn towards you at a 90 degree angle

32
Q

At what times would a alarm go off in relation to the gas supply in the hospital

A

When supply reaches an average days supply
when the reserve or in building supply begins to supply the system
When the pressure in the main line increases or decreases from normal operating pressure

33
Q

What’s the name for the points of use from a pipeline system - refers to wall connections or hanging from ceilings

A

Terminal units

34
Q

DISS what is it

A

Diameter Index Safety System - FOR THE PIPELINE, safety connection system for pipeline system.

35
Q

What’s unique about the DISS system

A

All the connections are non interchangeable

36
Q

Why should you keep suction kinked when not in use

A

Will allow maximum vacuum to be restored quickly

37
Q

The suction system, what’s upstream and what’s downstream?

A

With suction upstream is suction

With a tank it is the most upstream
