Gas Laws Flashcards
for all gas laws
temp must be in Kelvin
define pressure
the force acting over a given area
pressure is directly proportional to
temperature
pressure is inveresly proportional to
volume
volume is directly proportional to
temperature
state what happens to pressure as volume increase
as volume increase the distance between the walls increases so particles hit the walls less often the force decreases. pressure decreases
state what happens to pressure as temp increases
particles have more kinetic energy so hit the walls more often, producing a large force over the same area. P=F/A therefore pressure increases
state what happens to volume as temp increases
particle speed increases so they hit the walls more often with greater force. Since pressure is constant area increases so volume increases.
gas law equation
P1/T1=P2/T2
P1V1=P2V2
Vi/T1=V2/T2
PV/T=constant
