involved in the blood gas barrier

A
secrete surfactant which decreases the surface tension and keeps them open
can regenerate into type 1 alveolar cells to help replace damaged cells

What is the pathway of the diffusal of gases in the blood gas barrier?
A
Type 1 alveolar cell -> basement membranes -> endothelial cells of capillary wall -> blood from pulmonary arteries

Co2 defuses from deoxygenated blood into the alveoli to be breathed out
