Gas Exchange Breathing And Resperation Flashcards
What is aerobic respiration?
Oxygen is needed for the chemical reaction (aerobic respiration) to take place
What is the process that releases energy in living organisms?
Respiration
What is anaerobic respiration
Oxygen is not needed for the chemical reaction (anaerobic resperation) to take place
equations for aerobic resperation?
Glucose + oxygen ➡️ carbon dioxide + water
C6H12O6 +6O2 ➡️ 6CO2 + 6H2O
Where does anaerobic respiration occur?
Yeast and plant cells and also muscle cells
Anaerobic resperation: equation for plant and yeast cells?
Glucose ➡️ ethanol + carbon dioxide
Anaerobic resperation: equation for animal cells?
Glucose ➡️ lactic acid
Gas exchange: diffusion in humans
The oxygen is obtained from the air by the lungs,
Within the lungs, oxygen enters blood by diffusion and is carried to tissues by the red blood cells (concave)
What is the structure of the bronchi?
Trachea splits into 2 tubes which lead to each lung
What is the structure of the thorax?
The structure of the 2 lungs, heart, and major blood vessels
What is the structure of the ribs?
The sides of the thorax are strengthened by the RIBS which are joined to the back and Breast bone
