Gas Behavior Flashcards
What is kinetic theory?
Gases consist of very small particles.
These gases are constantly moving in random directions.
When the particles colide with each other or something else they bounce off it.
The particles only take up a tiny amount of space
What is absolute zero?
-273 degrees celcius.
Nothing can get colder than this as this is the temperature that atoms have as little kinetic energy as possible.
What is absolute zero on the Kelvin scale?
0 k
What is a temperature change of 1 degree celcius in kelvins?
1 kelvin
What is the freezing point of water on the Kelvin Scale?
273 K
How do you convert from degrees celcius to kelvins?
Add 273.
How do you convert from kelvins to degrees celcius?
Subtract 273
How is kinetic energy proportional to temperature?
The temperature of a gas in kelvins is proportional to the average kinetic energy of its particles.
How does temperature affect pressure?
As temperature increases as does the pressure
How does temperature affect volume?
As temperature increases as does volume
What is the equation for constant?
pressure x volume = constant
