Describe the structure of a sperm cell.

A
  1. Nucleus containing 23 chromosomes (haploid)
  2. Acrosome containing digestive (hydrolytic) enzymes to break down the zone pellucida
  3. Cell membrane
  4. Midsection contains mitochondria to provide energy (ATP) for tail movement
  5. Flagellum allows sperm to swim towards egg
