- Nucleus containing 23 chromosomes (haploid)
- Cell membrane
- Zone pelluida- protective glycoprotein layer that sperm have to enter
- Follicle cells around outside of cell to form a protective coating

Describe the structure of a sperm cell.
A
- Nucleus containing 23 chromosomes (haploid)
- Acrosome containing digestive (hydrolytic) enzymes to break down the zone pellucida
- Cell membrane
- Midsection contains mitochondria to provide energy (ATP) for tail movement
- Flagellum allows sperm to swim towards egg
