Initial Gait
The moment the foot touches the ground with heel contact
Loading Response
Weight is rapidly transferred onto the outstretched limb, the first period of double limb support
Midstance
The body is progressing over a single stable limb
Terminal Stance
Progression over the stance limb continues and weight is being transferred onto the forefoot
Pre-Swing
Rapid unloading of the limb is occuring; 2nd period of double limb support
Initial Swing
The thigh begins to advance as the foot comes from the floor
Midswing
The thigh continues to advance as the knee begins to flex; the foot clears the ground
Terminal Swing
The knee extends; the limb prepares to contact the ground for initial contact
