Gaia hypothesis
A
a coupled system of life and its abiotic environment at the surface of the Earth that self-regulates in a habitable state, despite destabilizing influences such as a steadily brightening Sun, changing volcanic, metamorphic and tectonic activity, and occasional massive meteorite impacts.
