G6PDH Deficiency Flashcards
1
Q
What enzyme is G6PDH?
A
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase
2
Q
Where in G6PDH used? What does it do?
A
First enzyme in Pentose Phosphate Pathway
Converts Glucose6P to 6 phosphogluconate and recycles NADP–>NADPH
3
Q
What are the oxidised and reduced forms of glutathione?
A
Oxidised- GSSG
Reduced- GSG
4
Q
How is G6PDH deficiency managed?
A
No real treatment but avoid drugs and foods that cause oxidative stress eg. Beans
5
Q
Why is G6PDH deficiency a problem?
A
No G6PDH- less NADP–>NADPH
TF activity of glutathione reductase and glutathione Peroxidase lowers
TF ROS’ accumulate
6
Q
What is a clinical sign of G6PDH deficiency?
A
Heinz bodies
