FW multi study guide Flashcards
describe the engines
O-360/LO-360, normally aspirated (carburetor only), air cooled, four cylinder, direct drive, horizontally opposed, and each rated at 180 hp at 2700 rpm; wet sump pressure type oil system (max 8 qts min 5 qts)
describe the induction system
engine equipped with a carb heat system which allows heated unfiltered air to enter the induction system to alleviate the possibility of induction ice; cowl flaps allow the amount of engine cooling air to be controlled to maintain a desired cylinder head temp
describe the ignition system
dual engine driven magneto system which is independent of the electrical system
how do magnetos work
mags work on the principle of electromagnetic induction; if you spin a permanent magnet inside a coil of wire you generate a current; the current travels to the spark plugs where its used to ignite the fuel air mixture in the cylinders
describe the prop
hartzell; two blade, constant speed, counter rotating, full feathering with unfeathering accumulators, 76” in diameter
what is an unfeathering accumulator
stores oil under pressure when you move a prop lever into the feather detent position; when you move the prop back out of detent, high pressure oil returns to the propeller hub moving the prop blades back to low pitch and high rpm; helps prop start windmilling again and helps engine to restart
