Fuses And Circuit Breakers Flashcards
How does fuses work
Fault allows live to touch something
Creates big current surge to earth
Draws large current through live wire
Current melts fuse in live wire
Isolates appilance from live
Residual current circuit breaker
Same current flows through live and neutral
If something touches live wire small but deadly current flows through to Earth
This means neutral wire carries less current
Rccb protects the difference and quickly cut off power by opening switch
Operate faster than fuses brakes circuit as soon as the current surge no time wasted for currants and melt fuse
Work for small current changes
Since small current changes can be fatal rccb is more effective and protecting against electrocution
