Freedom Charter, 1955
A
- Every man and women shall have the right to toe for every candidate
- All apartheid laws shall be set aside
- All people shall share the nation’s wealth
- The land shall be shared by those who work it
- All shall be equal before the law
- All shall enjoy human rights
- There shall be work and security - trade unions allowed
- Education shall be free

Treason Trial - 1956
A
- Government arrested and charged 156 with high treason, including most of the leaders of the ANC
- Government lawyers tried to prove that the freedom charter was communist and that the accused were plotting violent revolution
- All accused were eventually released and opposition weakened due to the longevity of the case

Female opposition to apartheid
A
- 1955 - Anti-pass law demonstrations announced that black women would have to carry pass books and there were huge protests with men and women, one of them being Walter Sisulu’s wife
- Black Sash Organisation - A group of white women founded this in 1955 to git the National Party’s end to end Coloured voting rights
- Winnie Mandela, Nelson’s second wife kept the flag of restiacen flying high

- African National Congress - aimed to abolish apartheid and equal rights for all, more dominant
- Pan Africanist Congress (split from ANC) - Militant resistance and focused on the freedom of blacks
