Fungal-migratory bacterium
Fungal consumption of fixed N
Bacterial consumption of fungal enzyme product is

Q

E.g.s of neg interactions

A
  • some fungi use bac as source of nitrogen. Often lyse them and are attracted to colonies
  • some bacteria are mycophages e.g. streptomycetes strains
  • non-filamentous bacteria can attach to hyphae and maybe penetrate
  • bacterial parasitism of fungus e.g. brown blotch disease of A.Bisporus by p.tolaasii

Q

What may fungi-bacteria compete for?

A
  • simple carbon compounds
  • products of extracellular digestion of lignincellulysis
  • fungi for bacterial products

Q

Describe mycostasis

A
  • most fungal spores fail to germinate = correlated with microbial activity
    Alleviated if:
  • soil sterilised (kills bacteria = less nutrient competition and inhibitory metabolites produced)
  • energy sources are added (less competition)

Q

Viral infection of fungi

A

Intracellular within fungus
Can be transmitted between hosts via cell-cell contact/fusion
No natural vectors known
Most cause no/few obvious symptoms

Q

E.g. of protist mycophagy

A
  • amoeba geococcus vulgaris attaches to walls of fungal spores and sucks out contents
  • plasmodia of myxomycetes consume fungi

Q

Explain protosome bacteria in rumen

A

Fungi and protosome bacteria enter cow rumen via grass consumption
Bacteria produce zoospores that can swim and are aqueous = feed on fungi
