supports TRADITIONAL GENDER ROLES and against PROGRESSIVE DIVERSITY: LGBTQ.
THEM v US MENTALITY; separate themselves from the rest of the world and
DO NOT TOLERATE OTHER RELIGIONS: claim MONOPOLY OF TRUTH
CAUSES OF FUNDAMENTALISM:
BRUCE: the main causes of FUNDAMENTALISM is MODERNISATION and SECULARISATION. Modernisation has undermined the religion in two ways; social life has become separate from religious life and RATIONALISATION leads people to SEEK scientific explanations for behaviour rather than religious.
GIDDENS:
GLOBALISATION undermines traditional norms concerning the family, sexuality and abortion.
BAUMAN:
POSTMODERNITY, too much choice causes uncertainty and HEIGHTENED AWARENESS of risks.
