What is a synovial joint??
A joint that has more movement than any normal joint eg. Knee
Type of joints
Ball and socket- wide range of movement
Hinge- like a hinge
Types of movement
Flexible and extension (hinge)
Plantar flexion and dorsiflextion (hinge)
Rotation (ball and socket)
Adduction and abduction (ball and socket)
What is an antagonistic muscle action??
Muscles can only pull so they must act in pairs
Attached to bones by tendons
Bones are strapped together by ligaments
1 muscle contracts the other relaxes
What is an antagonist muscle?
A muscle that relaxes
What is an agonist muscle??
The muscle that contracts
Examples of antagonistic muscle action
Biceps and triceps, acting at the elbow= flexitime and extension
Hip flexors and gluteals, acting at the hip= flexion and extension
