It transports most of the body’s needs around the body
What are the four components of blood?
Plasma, platelets, red blood cells, white blood cells

- carbon dioxide from body cells to lungs
- urea from liver to kidneys

What is a platelet?
A small fragment of cell
What do the function of a platelet?
To plug a damaged blood vessel - known as blood clotting
What is the name of the protein which holds together the protein in a mesh
Fibrin
What are clotting factors?
Proteins needed for the blood clotting process to work
What is the function of a red bold cell?
Transporting oxygen from the lungs to all the body cells
How does a red blood cells shape help it with its function
Is small with a bio concave shape to give large surface area for absorbing and releasing oxygen
How does haemoglobin help red blood cell with its function?
It gives blood it’s colour, contains lots of iron. In lungs reacts with oxygen to for oxyhaemoglobin.
Reverse reaction happens in body tissue to release oxygen to the cells.
