Personal: language is used to express feelings, opinions and identity
e.g. “Me good girl”
Heuristic, imaginative and representational/coming to terms with the environment…(three groups: HIR)
Heuristic: language is used to gain knowledge about the environment
e.g. “What is the tractor doing?”
Imaginative: language is sued to tell stories and jokes to create an imaginary environment
e.g. “The dog has magical powers”
Representational: language is used to convey facts and info
e.g. “The ball is red”
