What does Durkheim mean by the balance of crime ?
Too little crime and deviance means that society is repressing and controlling its members too much, stifling freedom and preventing change.
Too much crime leads to state of anomie. The rules become weakened and less clear cut.
What does anomie mean to Durkheim ?
Normlessness to crime
What do Durkheim and tonnies argue about increase of crime ?
A increase in crime is due to breakdown of community. People less bonded to others

- How much is the right amount ?
- he ignores that some crime will always be dysfunctional.
