religion acts as a conservative force, and this is positive thing as it keeps the shared value consensus, and society running smoothly.

religions reinforces societies norms and values (created an collective conscience) by passing on and reinforcing shared values consensus, it keeps society able and therefore society remaining the same from generation to generation

Religion creates stability for society, as it allows individuals to cope, and therefore move on from times of crisis These psychological functions prevent social change by calming people and getting rid of any strong emotions that would cause change

religion created social order based on value consensus. it supports and reinforces traditional values i. society, and prevents radical social change
