Functional Knowledge Chapter 2 Flashcards
What is a response?
single occurrence of behavior
The measurable unit of behavior in analysis.
What is behavior?
the larger set or class of responses that have the same physical dimensions (e.g. hand flapping) or function (i.e. studying)
Define a response class….
behaviors in a group with the same function (e.g compromises the operant).
What does repertoire mean? ( 2 meanings)
- everything (all behaviors) that an individual can do. 2. collection of knowledge & skills that an individual has learned relevant to a particular task.
Define environment…
setting everything except the moving parts of a organism involved in the behavior. all behaviors occur within a environmental context.
What is stimuli?
internal or external to the individual stimulus is an physical change that affects an individual through the receptor cells. stimuli can occur prior to, during or after a behavior.
Name the 3 types of nervous systems? Hint: PIE
- Proprioceptive 2. Interoceptive 3. Exteroceptive
What is Proprioceptive? (1 of 3 nervous systems)
Coordination Balance & Movement stimulation from joints, tendons, muscles. Ex. roller coaster ride an feeling dizzy.
What is interoceptive? (2 of 3 nervous systems)
Internal stimulation fro the organs (hence internal) ex. having a headache
What is exteroceptive? (3 or 3 nervous systems)
external senses - think 5 senses (hearing, smelling, touching etc) ex. the smell of cookies baking
A group of ANTECEDENT stimuli that has a common effect on the OPERANT class…
Stimulus Class
What are the 3 types of stimulus classes?
Hint: FTF
Formal
Temporal
Functional
Formal (1 of 3 stimulus classes)
the description of the physical features of the stimuli (e.g. topography).
Ex. size, color, weight, spatial prepositions
Temporal (2 of 3 stimulus classes)
Temp = Time
the stimulus changes that once existed prior (i.e. antecedent) to the behavior & then the changes that occur after (i.e. consequences) the behavior of interest.
Functional (3 of 3 stimulus classes)
