FUNCTIONAL ELEMENTS OF AN INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEM Flashcards
What are functional elements of a system
There are several functional elements in a system, these are basically the elements which are responsible for carrying out a certain function or action.
Explain the types of functional elements.
There are several types of functional elements, namely:
~Primary Sensing Element -> This element comes first in the contact of the physical quantity that has to be measured, it sense the quantity.
~Variable Conversion Element -> The output from the PSE might not be the of the desired format, so it changes it to the desired format.
~Variable Manipulation Element -> Here the form of the output won’t change, but the amplitude or frequency will.
~Data Transmission Element -> This element provides a mechanism for the data to transmit to different places or systems, via wired or wireless approach.
~Data Presentation Element -> This is used represent the final value in terms of numerical reading, scale and pointer or a plot.
Explain Desired, Interfering & Modifying Inputs
Desired -> This is the input that we want to measure.
Interfering -> This is the type of input to which our instrument is sensitive to, this is an external disturbance. We don’t want this.
Modifying -> These are the quantities that cause a change in the relationship between the input and the output.
