Function of the CVS Flashcards

1
Q

Functions of the CVS

A
  • transports O2/CO2 + nutrients, metabolites and hormeones
  • Thermoregulation

Flexible
-vessels can redirect/store blood

Q

Which organs receieve the least blood supply during excercise?

A
  • gut and kidneys receive a smaller proportion of CO during excercise
  • this occurs through vasoconstriction ( sympathetic activity)

Q

State the properties of arterioles

A
  • AKA resistance vessels
  • narrow lumen ( small radius), high resistance and thick contractile wall
  • controls resistance , hence BF + allows regional redirection of blood

Q

State properties of veins and venules

A
  • wide lumen, distensible wall, storage of blood due to large lumen
  • low resistance , allows fractional distribution of blood between veins
