Function Of Ligaments Flashcards
Posterior MCL
Limits elbow extension, limits valgus
Anterior MCL
Resist valgus from 20-120 degrees of flexion
Anterior band up to 90 degrees
Posterior band end range of flexion
Oblique MCL
Approximate joint surface so limits distraction
Small role in limiting valgus
Lateral collateral ligament
Limits varus, limits varus with supination so radial head doesn’t roll off, stabilize ulna to humerus, limits long axis distraction, stabilizes radial head for rotation
Lateral radial collateral ligament
Reinforcement for humeroradial joint, protect against varus forces in some elbow positions, resistance to long distractions
Lateral ulnar collateral ligament
Posterolateral stability by securing ulna to humerus
Annular ligament
Holds radial head in place
Interosseous membrane
Maintains space between radius and ulna during forearm rotation, transfers load from distal radius to proximal ulna, holds two bones together, supports inferior radioulnar joint
Quadrate ligament
Maintains position of radius with ulna, might limit pronation and supination
TFCC
Tethers ECU, increases stability on lateral side, absorbs forces, increase congruency on ulnar side
Palmar radioulnar
Limits supination
Dorsal radioulnar
Limits pronation
Radioscapholunate
Conduit for neurovascular structures, limit extension
Radiolunate and radiocapitate
Limits extension
Radial collateral
Resists ulnar deviation
