Communication is used to regulate or control the pace and flow of communication
Verbal cues
Prompts or expressions a speaker can say in signaling
Example: “Please stop talking.”
Nonverbal cues
Signals using facial expressions or actions
Example: Nodding or shaking one’s head
Eye contact
Eye contact is a nonverbal cue used in communication
Head-shaking
Indicates that the listener wants the speaker to stop talking
Raising the index finger
Signals that the speaker is not finished speaking or that the listener would like to say something
Leaning back
Signals that the speaker is done talking and is now yielding the floor
