FUNBIO 20 - Transmission genetics: Linkage and Crossover Flashcards

1
Q

Define linkage.

A

Since homologous recombination involves the exchange of large parts of chromosomes between homologous chromosomes, it is unlikely that genes that are located at loci that are close to each other will undergo recombination between them. Therefore, they tend to assort together, in contrast to the Law of Independent Assortment.
