FUEL Flashcards

1
Q

What does the Nitrogen Inerting Unit (NIU) do?

A

provides oxygen-depleted air to the internal cells to reduce the fire hazards associated with fuel cell ullage (air space)

14
Q

What is a cross feed valve and what does it do?

A

They allow both engines to draw fuel from either internal fuel cell. It also provides a positive fuel shutoff during maintenance and emergencies. Crossfeed SOVs are three-way, four-position ball valves that are controlled by the SP.

16
Q

When conducting a hot refuel what must be complete prior to take-off?

A

A Bubble burn (see check list)

17
Q

What is the purpose of the cross feed valves?

A

It allows the engines to draw fuel from either fuel cell and provides a positive shut off during emergencies

18
Q

The cross feed SOV is a 3 way, 4 position valve. What are the 4 positions?

A

Normal
cross feed aft
cross feed forward
closed (emergency only)

19
Q

What is the purpose of the break away valve?

A

The breakaway valve reduces fire hazards by sealing fuel cells and lines in the event of a high-impact landing.

20
Q

During start up and during emergencies requiring the boost pump to be on, what will the cross feed valves do?

A

The SP will command the cross feed to draw fuel from the aft cell.

21
Q

What is the warning associated with the cross feed valves?

A

WARNING: cross feed shall be set to normal at all times while in flight. unless executing emergency procedures for engine 1 Fuel PSI low and engine 2 PSI . A malfunctioning cross feed valve could result in a single engine flame out

22
Q

If you are fighting in an aircraft with a robby tank and the forward or aft level low caution displays but your EUFD says you 1100 lbs onboard what is wrong?

A

You have not transferred fuel from the Center aux tank to the main fuel cells.

23
Q

The INU uses IPAS to purge about _____% of the oxygen in the fuel cells.

A

70%

24
Q

The INU requires ______ and ________ to operate?

A

IPAS, 115 volts AC
