Q

Alternate Fuel

A

Fuel from the missed approach point to the destination alternate

Highest amount of 2 alternate is used
If no alternate selected 15 minutes of additional fuel in case of engine failure of loss of pressurisation

Excludes the missed approach at the alternate

15 minutes over the destination airfield for additional fuel

Q

Final reserve

A

Fixed quantity of fuel for worst case:
Jet AC - 30 minutes holding at 1500ft
Piston AC - 45 minutes of cruise flight

Using this fuel = emergency

Fuel above hold at alternate - if no alternate use destination hold

A

Used if fuel price at destination is high

Trip fuel

Q

RCF Concept

A

To reduce additional fuel requirement on longer flights to allow more traffic loads.

Either RCF1 - 5% of the fuel from the DP to the destination
Or
RCF2 - contingency fuel for the trip from departure to the alternate (normal fuel planning procedures)

Q

PDP

A

Pre determined point - used for destinations with no suitable alternates (isolated).

Carry additional fuel rather than alternate fuel:

Jets = 2 hours of fuel including final reserves
Reciprocating = 45 minutes + 15% cruise fuel or two hours cruise (lesser)

This includes final reserves

Q

When is only one alternate required

A

CAVOK = no alternate
Below weather = 2 alternates required (if the alternate weather is good enough take the lower of the 2)

Q

What is a reason where deviation of actual fuel consumption compared to planned consumption would need to be factored

A

Change to arrival runway during cruise
