What is the product safety rule?
Standards for the growing, harvesting and post-harvest handling of produce for human consumption
What is the focus of the product safety rule?
prevention, not detection
What is “covered produce”
fruits and vegetables (does not include grains) - usually consumed raw
ie. Mushrooms, herbs, tree nuts, mixes of in tact fruits and veg
What are “exempt produce” examples
1 - Certain produce that is rarely consumed raw - destined for “kill step” processing.
2 - intended for personal or on- farm consumption
3 - Farms with annual sales of $25000 or less

1 - Agricultural water
