What is the definition of an FSG call?
A call received by control where caller believes they are unable to leave their premises due to effects of fire and where the control officer remains online giving the appropriate advice.
* This is not all calls where ppl are uncertain and take advice from control. Control decide if it constitutes an FSG.
Who decides which calls get priority on the incident ground?
The IC. Using situational awareness and info from control allocated resources appropriately.
What information do control attempt to get in the Control Information Form and pass to the ICP?
- Flat/House number.
- No. of ppl involved.
- Their location and its condition.
- Proximity to Fire (if known).
- Latest advice given.
- Time of FSG call.
- Time updated.
Names cannot be passed by appliance radio.
How should ICP radio operator record this info?
On Control Info Form. White copy goes to CU.
Once recorded on CIF what should the ICP radio operator do?
Repeat details over radio to control. Then pass this info over to IC.
If control can not raise ICP on radio to hand over FSG info what do they do?
They will pass this onto another appliance en-route who will record this and pass on to IC on arrival and a copy retained at the ICP. IC should then inform control that they have received this info.
What can an IC do to aid FSG related Comms coming from control And on the foreground?
Ask first CU to only deal with FSG calls.
Dedicated hand held radio channel for FSGs.
Dedicated mainscheme channel on OPS1 for the incident alone or FSGs alone.
What additional attendance will FSGC generate?
Equivalent to persons reported:
CU, SM, FIU.
In addition:
Extra CU, SM, PL with WM.
Are resources with an FSG attribute included when calculating resources for a make up?
No.
If FSGC in progress does an IC still need to send a ‘persons reported’ message?
Yes.
How does an appliance en-route to an incident know that an FSGC is in progress at the incident?
The call slip will be annotated to include ‘Fire Survival Guidance in progress at this incident’.
What is the casualty information poster and where is it located?
To record information on FSGCs. It can be used at any incident where people are trapped or missing. On CUs and FIB.
What does the CSS have to help with FSGC?
Records all foreground messages once CU mobilised. Message sent by firelink radio relating to FSGCs recorded here. Conferencing facility for remote users.
Control have access and sensitive info relating to FSG can be communicated via CSS.
What should an IC appoint as soon as resources allow?
An FSG co-ordinator (minimum SM) to record and retail all info and actions. Briefing must include lines of Comms and their limits of authority.
What should one of the first jobs of FSG co-ordinator be?
Contact control via telephone and find or progress of FSGCs. Names of callers can be passed this way.
