What is front of house responsible for?
Responsible for crowd control in the foyer and auditorium before the show & spotlights.
What are the equipment needed for usher/doorman?
- Clipboard
- Blank paper for notes
- pen/pencil
- teacher seating plan signs
- seating signs
- pink “do not disturb” signs
-radio with headset & belt - flashlight
What does the usher/doorman clipboard contain?
- copy of seating plan for that day’s assembly (1&2)
- copy of program order
- copy of performers who are entering the auditorium through foyers door, when necessary (rare)
What is the number for Head Doorman?
208 for Head Doorman
What is the number for Head Usher?
207 for Head Usher
Where do the doormen stand?
The doormen stand in the auditorium foyer/side entrances
When could doormen open auditorium doors?
- open up the auditorium doors before shows, during intermissions & after shows
What do doormen do when guests arrive when show has already begun?
When show has begun:
doormen keep patrons from opening doors and entering in middle of performance.
Late comers are only allowed through the entrance near the office
Keep all other people in the foyer quiet, people could hear noise through the door!
! Make sure to not allow ppl to watch through cracks of the door to avoid injuries when someone exists suddenly
What should doormen/ushers do when show is finished?
Help change seating signs in-between assembly 1&2
Ensure that your copy of all necessary paperwork from your clipboard has been put away in the proper hanging folder in the backstage file cabinet in the Right Wing (only file your notes after the last show).
Each assembly and show has a hanging folder labelled with the name of the show and the month and year that show occurred. !! All relevant paperwork for that show from all positions should be in that file.
Collect all teacher seating plan signs, performance/“Do Not Disturb” signs and Performer Pen signs, then gather all sticky tack from the plastic sign covers to be stored in the airtight container in the booth. Return all signs to their proper place in the shelves in the booth.
Put your clipboard back in the backstage cupboard near the changerooms.
Ensure that the auditorium doors are securely closed and locked after the last patron has left then assist other Crew in break-down.
Where do the Ushers stand?
the ushers stand just inside of the foyer door
what is the responsibility of the usher?
usher people to their seats and help people find their assigned seats
What do ushers do when a performance starts?
people may only exit in-between numbers or in the event of an emergency
the usher keeps patrons from opening the doors and exiting in the middle of a performance.
as well as manning the door to the booth throughout the show to ensure that no one wanders up there!
What do ushers do when guests arrive late?
If patrons arrive late and are let in by the doorman, the usher then helps those patrons to find an appropriate seat and explains that their assigned seat may no longer be available.
What should be done incase radio shortage?
In case of radio shortages, the Crew on doorman duty may lose his/her radio
What is another form of way to communicate other than phones?
You can also communicate using the internal phones.

For communication that will take longer than a few radio calls, use the telephones so that the radio is free for other calls.
