Friction Flashcards
1
Q
state the laws governing friction
A
- Its direction is opposite to the proposed direction of movement
- Its proportional to the perpendicular force between the surfaces
- its dependent on nature of surfaces
- independent of surface area
- independent of speed
2
Q
define friction
A
A force that resists movement of solid liquid or gas
Highest before sliding begins limiting friction
once movement started friction force falls = sliding friction
3
Q
Formula for pushing force
A
Pushing force = u X W (U has a tail)
u = coefficient of friction X Weight ( or down force of a cylinder )
reaction force is = to weight / mass. IE weight is same as upward force.
pushing force - Fr (friction factor ) = 0
4
Q
Frictional force formula
A
Frictional force = mass x acceleration x coefficient of friction MAC
