the logical, rational, and most conscious part of the personality
redirects aggressive impulses in socially acceptable ways
- the ego fulfills the id’s aggressive urges indirectly through fantasizing about violence
what is superego in the tripartite theory
superego fulfills the moral role and it represents our conscience and moral sense of right or wrong
it opposes the id’ aggressive drive through implanting guilt and shame when we fail to meet the moral standards
