Frequency Distributions Flashcards
chapter 2
normal distribution
bell-shaped curve
skewed distribution
asymmetrical; one end tail is pulled away from the center
What effect is linked to a positively skewed curve?
floor effect
What effect is linked to a negatively skewed curve?
ceiling effect
Dot plot
signals individual values and allows visualization of the overall shape of the data. does not have a y-axis.
Frequency tables
two columns: one with possible values and the other with the frequency of each value.
Grouped frequency tables
same structure as a frequency table, but the possible values are grouped in ranges.
2 ways “interval” is used
for interval variable; for intervals of values in a grouped frequency table.
the equation to convert values to percentage
frequency divided by the total number of possible values (categories), then multiply by 100.
histogram
Pareto chart
