Q

What is sound and how does it relate to acoustics?

A

Acoustics is the study of sound. It looks at how sound is made, the structure of sound and how sound travels in different spaces/mediums and through different material.

Q

How does all sound begin?

A

All sounds start as vibrations which then travel as waves through the air and other mediums such as wood, metal, water etc.

Q

What are the three stages which affect how a listener perceives sound?

A

1) Source - The initial character
2) Conveying Medium - The Environment, and the mediums which sound travels to.
3) Receptor - The listening conditions applied by the listener. (individual perception of sound, physical condition…)

Q

What is Period?

A

frequency tells us how many cycles occur in one second.Period is how long it takes for one cycle of vibration to occur.

17
Q

What is Amplitude?

A

A measurement of displacement, numerous units of measurement.
