What type of people consisted in the 2nd estate
the nobility of France, including members of the royal family, except for the King
What type of people consisted in the 1st estate
This estate consisted of the clergy
What powers did the king posses
Creating new laws, Rights to arrest and imprisonment, appointing new ministers and much more
What was the Lettre De Cachet
This was a letter given to ministers signed by the king which gave orders which had to be abided by without objections
What are parlements
These are local law courts and councils who enforce the kings laws
How could parlements stop laws from being published
They could refuse to implement laws they felt went against the ancien regime
What privileges did the 1st estate have
Most of the first estate did not have any privileges and were quite poor. However some of the clergy within the first estate such as the higher clergy had privileges
What privileges did the higher clergy have within the 1st estate
Their prestigious positions being passed down through generations
What privileges did the 2nd estate have
These people had the most privilege overall
Some exempt from paying taxes
Some exempt from military conscription
What privileges did the 3rd estate have
These people did not have any privileges whatsoever
