Estates General

A

The combination of all three French Estates. (First Estate - Clergy; Second Estate - Nobility; Third Estate - Everyone Else). King Louis XVI gathered all three estates as a congressional body to help him with financial problems, however the other two estates did not listen to the inputs of the third estate causing them to leave the Estates General

King Louis XVI remained the face of France as well as kept his title however with no citizens to govern he lost his power as he sensed a revolt coming

the third estate

A

The third estate made up of everyone else, from peasant farmers to the bourgeoisie – the wealthy business class. While the Second Estate was only 1% of the total population of France, the Third Estate was 96%, and had none of the rights and privileges of the other two estates.

Maximilien Robespierre

A

Maximilien Robespierre, the architect of the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror, is overthrown and arrested by the National Convention. As the leading member of the Committee of Public Safety from 1793, Robespierre encouraged the execution, mostly by guillotine, of more than 17,000 enemies of the Revolution.

After the Third Estate seceded from the the Estates General it formed the National Assembly. This acted as a representative body for the rest of French people as rebellion.

Financial Crisis

A

Mary Antoinette and Louis XVI spent way too much of the country’s money on themselves. There was the creation of the Palace of Versailles, a really large building created for no use, only showing the amount of power and money he has.
