Norin10 is high yielding wheat crossbreed, with Norin dwarfing genes which are now resent in 70% commercial wheat cultivars.
Dwarfing alleles are Rht-B1b and Rht-D1b - introduce stop codons in DELLA domain of GA.

Soybean resistance to stink bugs increases with exposure to solar UV-B.

tested 2 levels of UVB and 4 soybean cultivars
ambient UVB - higher conc of isoflavenoids in pods, and less herbivory.
Attenuated UVB - more damaged seeds and empty pods.

UVR8 is in nucleus associated with histones of Hy-5 promoter.

transcript measurements of mutants and WT by RT-PCR to identify genes regulated by UVR8

UVR8-1 needed for UVR8 expression of first molecule in flavenoid biosynthesis pathway - CHS Chalcone synthase.

Screened >50,000 plants and found 4 mutants lacking UVB induction of CHS expression. these were all allelic with UVR8-1.

adjust metabolism in autumn: increase cryoprotective compounds to maximise cold tolerance, membrand phospholipids stabilised by CORs, dehydrin proteins and heat shock proteins. increase antioxidants, antifreeze activity modulated by CA2+.

cold sensing cytoskeletal microtubules and filaments modulate activity of Ca2+ channels following membrane rigidification.

  2. Reduced PAR signals, detected by cryptochromes, decreased UVB.
  3. Co-action of light signals, B:G ratio. Less B deactivates cryptochromes so more G relfected.
  4. Touch - induces leaf hyonasty, also wind prevents elongation.
  5. ethylene/VOC- inter plant signal. eg barley cultivars planted adjacent enhance aphid resistance and VOC from other cultivars alters allocation of resources from roots to shoots.
