What are the styles allowed within Franciacorta DOCG ?
1. Non Vintage
- These wines are typically Chardonnay/Pinot Noir blends that may also have up to 50% Pinot Blanc.
- They must have a minimum of 18 months on the lees.
- In reality these wines are often made from the fruit of a single vintage
2. Saten
- This style only can be made from white grapes (in practice Chardonnay 100%).
- They must have a minimum of 24 months on the lees and made of slightly less sugar at tirage, resulting in pressure not more than 5 atmosphere
- They may only be made in Brut style
3. Rose
- This style must be a minimum of 35% Pinot Noir and most examples are blends of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
- Producers are free to extract colour from Pinot Noir either by direct pressing or by short maceration on the skins. Blending with red wine is also permitted.
- A minimum of 24 months on the lees is required.
4. Millesimato
- These are wines with the vintage declared.
- They must be made with a minimum of 85% of fruit from that year and spend a minimum of 30 months on the lees.
5. Riserva
- These are Millesimato wines that have spent a minimum of 30 months on the lees.

Lombardy region, central northern Italy.
Warm continental with moderating influences from the Alps and Lake Iseo.
