France Flashcards

1
Q

Important parts of the classification of 1855

A

Chateaus were rated based on price not quality. Brand vs. Land. Right bank was excluded. All chateaus are from the Medoc except Ch. Haut Brion from Graves. System is solidified and won’t change. Very FEW changes in 160 yrs. (mouton rothschild added and one chateau added that was accidently left off). It is the single and most famous classification system in the world. Chateau d’Yquem only Sauternes given a first superior growth rating.
