16
Q

numerator

A

number on top, the part

17
Q

denominator

A

number on bottom, the whole

18
Q

Converting from Improper to Proper

A

Divide the numerator by the denominator with the remainder over the divisor aka denominator.
Eg. 16/3 = 5 1/3

19
Q

Converting from Proper to Improper

A

Multiply the divisor by the integer, then add the remainder.
Eg. 4 2/7 = (4x7) + 2 = 28+2 = 30
7 7 7

20
Q

Adding and Subtracting Fractions

A

Multiply the denominators together to form the new denominator. Then cross multiple the Ds and Ns and add these two numbers together always multiplying UP from D to N.
Eg. 3 + 4 = 21 + 20 = 41
5 7 5x7 35
Subtraction works the same way (except you subtract rather than add the two sums)

21
Q

Multiplying Fractions

A

Just multiply exactly as they are.

22
Q

Dividing Fractions

A

Flip the second fraction and multiply.
Eg. 2 / 3 = 2 x 8 = 16
5 8 5 3 15

23
Q

Reciprical

A

the result when the N and D of the fraction are flipped. The product of any number an dits reciprocal is 1.
Eg. 5 and 7
7 5

24
Q

Reducing Fractions

A

Just remember: you can do anything to a fraction as long as you do exactly the same thing to both the numerator and the denominator.
