Fracking Flashcards
Fossil fuel
A natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organism
Containment building
A lead structure enclosing a nuclear reactor
Thermal energy
Thermal energy is the internal energy of an object due to the kinetic energy o it’s atom and/ or molecules. The atoms and/ or molecules of a hotter object have greater kinetic energy then that of colder ones
Kenetic energy
Energy that a body possesses by virtue of being in motion
Cooling towers
A tall, open-topped, cylinder concrete tower, used for cooling water or condensing steam from an industrial process.
Reactor vessel
Reactor pressure in a nuclear power plant is the pressure vessel containing the nuclear reactor coolant, core shroud, and the reactor core
Fractional distillation
Separation of a liquid mixture into fraction differing in boiling point(and hence chemical composition) by means of distillation, typically using a fractionating column
Coal
A combustible black rock consisting of carbonized plant matter, found mainly in underground deposits and widely used as fuel
Oil
A liquid from petroleum, especially for use as a fuel or lubricant.
Meltdown
An accident of the nuclear reactor which the fuel overheats and melts the reactors core
Natural gas
Flammable gas, mostly methane and other hydrocarbons, happens under ground, and used as fuel
Turbine
A machine for making power in which a wheel or rotor, typically fitted with vanes, is made to revolve by fast moving flow of water, steam, gas, air, or other fluid
Electricity
A form of energy resulting from the existence of charged particle(such as electrons and protons) either statically as an accumulation of charged as a current
Uranium fuel rod
A long slender zirconium metal tube containing pellets o fissionable materials, which provides fuel for nuclear reactors.
Renewable energy source
A source we can get more of
