Four Levels Differentiation Flashcards
Concept: This level is where a warm-heat pathogen has attacked the body surface leading to the dysfunction of the protective Wei Qi at the early level of illness.
Wei Qi Level Syndrome (Protective Level)
Analysis: The protective qi becomes stagnant and the Lungs fail to disperse the protective Wei Qi due to the attack of the body. This is a mild level and is a short length of time to “cure” unless it goes to the Qi Level.
Wei Qi Level Syndrome (Protective Level)
Key Symptoms: fever, slight aversion to cold, and thirst (injures body fluids) Clinical Manifestations: no sweating or little sweating, cough, swollen sore throat, headache
Wei Qi Level Syndrome (Protective Level)
Tongue: red tip and sides
Wei Qi Level Syndrome (Protective Level)
Pulse: floating and rapid
Wei Qi Level Syndrome (Protective Level)
Concept: This level is where a warm heat pathogen has attacked the body and progressed from the outside (Wei Level) to the inside of the body affecting the physiological function of Qi in the body, especially circulation of Qi, producing heat in the body. Many organs are affected now (Lung, Stomach, Spleen, Gallbladder, San Jiao)
Qi Level Syndrome
Analysis: At this level there is a severe struggle between Zheng Qi (the body’s ability to fight) and the warm-heat pathogen ( Xie Qi) creating excess heat and damage of body fluids. This is a deeper level and more severe and will be longer course than the Wei Level. It is now affecting the functioning of Qi in the organs.
Qi Level Syndrome
Key Symptoms: aversion to heat, thirst with preference for cold, tongue coat, some Zang-Fu organ signs (for example: cough abdominal distention- refusing pressure, beginnings of heat vexation) Clinical Manifestations: high fever, profuse sweating, diarrhea (foul smell), pasty dry stools, bitter taste, retching, rib/side pain (Qi stagnation so LR is in charge of smooth flow of Qi).
Qi Level Syndrome
Tongue: red with yellow, dry coat
Qi Level Syndrome
Pulse: powerful and rapid
Qi Level Syndrome
Concept: Now the warm-heat pathogen has progressed through
