The study of the origins and development of societies and the people within them.
Prehistory
About 5000 years ago humans started keeping written record. The period of time before this is called prehistory
Archaeology
The study of past societies, people, and their culture by looking at relics that have been left behind.
What time did Homo sapiens appear
Between 100000 years ago and 250000 years ago, the first homo started to appear
Hominids
Similar to humans and walked upright develop into Neanderthals which develop into Homo Sapiens.
Out of Africa theory
This theory states that humans initially lived in Africa, and then left and spread out across the world.
Characteristics of the Paleolithic period
-2 million B.C.
-Nomadic life, people traveled in snap groups
-Men would hunt, while woman would gather foods such as Fruits
0why would early humans follow a nomadic lifestyle?
The Paleolithic period
-Tools were developed out of material like stone and wood.
-technological and cultural advancements at this time included the first weapons, developing a spoken language, and travel over water by raft as early as early as 40000 B.C.
Animism
-first religious beliefs
-Believed that spirits existed in the world and lived in animals or other objects.
-early cave paintings portray these animals.

-infrastructure develops, such as roads and houses
- Written language is created.
