How is coal formed?

A

Millions of years ago trees and plants died, they were buried under layers of mud, the heat and pressure caused them to form coal, therefore coal is often deep underground.

How is gas and oil formed?

A

Millions of years ago sea creatures died and fell to the sea bed, they were covered in sand and squashed, over millions of years the heat and pressure caused the fossils of the dead sea creatures to form crude oil and natural gas

What is the importance of fossil fuels to society?

A

Natural gas is used for cooking and heating
Crude oil is used for powering engines
Coal is used for generating electricity
(We use fossil fuels for basically everything)
